UPDATE: It seems I am not the only monthly pass holder here to suddenly have $300 appear in a transit account or have a pass unexpectedly deactivated. CTA needs to get its damn act together. Still have to wait until August to reactivate. F*ck!

It's a sad day for Chicago architecture. We've lost the Adler/Sullivan-designed Dexter building to a massive fire. Thankfully the building was empty and no one was seriously injured. The air in the Loop still smells of smoke.

For the second time in a week a fire has disrupted L service. On Monday everything was pretty orderly, but this morning I was amazed at how few people listen to the CTA announcements. Our poor driver was getting exasperated with the stupid questions and angry comments from people standing on the platforms. Hey idiots: the official announcements & signs explain all the *simple to understand* temporary changes and the drivers give further details on each train. Shut up and hop on already! Sheesh!!

Today my boss is taking my group out for lunch at Le Colonial. Oo-la-la!

The Chicago Transit Authority holiday train jumped the tracks last night.  Wendy McClure--yes, that Wendy--was on the train and took some great pics.  It appears that Santa escaped unscathed...

(Nobody was hurt. Oh, and the same thing happened in the same spot two years ago, which is why they didn't used the flatbed car for Santa last year.)
